BLACK MOUNTAIN'S POLARIS PRIZE GALA PERFORMANCE + BABYSITTING TIPS!
From Jagjaguwar:

Every year Canada's Polaris Prize has a very lovely Gala to honor the nominees of the award. This year, Black Mountain's "In the Future" was nominated, so the band attended the award ceremony and played their song "Tyrants" to a venue full of industry professionals eating dinner at tables and sippin' on sparkly stuff.

Canada's CBC also nominated the band in two categories for their annual Bucky awards.

1. Best Advice From an Artist: Steve McBean on "babysitting tips"
2. Best Hook: "Stormy High"

If you've used any of Steve's babysitting advice in any of your endeavors OR love the hook in "Stormy High", get on over to the CBC website and VOTE! Voting begins today and ends November 28th. Winners will be announced in special live broadcast on December 17.

BLACK MOUNTAIN RELEASE NEW VIDEO OF "WUCAN", ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES
From Jagjaguwar:

From BLACK MOUNTAIN's second full-length album "In The Future" (which was just recently short-listed for Canada's prestigious Polaris Prize), the song "Wucan" is now in video form, featuring footage of all five members of the modern heavy psych outfit performing in the desert. Largely filmed by the band itself, and then put together with the assistance of Shira Blustein and Jon West, this video conjures up both a haunted and an expansive vibe. Check it out:
http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/bmwucan.mov

Or here:

In addition to a handful of European festival dates (Green Man, Pukkelpop and the Lowlands Festival), Black Mountain will also be performing throughout North America in August and September. Highlights include being a part of the NEW PORNOGRAPHER's Stanley Park Singing Exhibition, performing at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival and the Pygmalion Music Festival, and touring a string of dates (including two in New York City) with JESSE SYKES & THE SWEET HEREAFTER. Also, Black Mountain will make their maiden voyage to South America, and will perform two dates in Brazil, one as part of the Goiania Noise Festival on November 22.

"BASTARDS OF LIGHT" EP NOW DIGITALLY AVAILABLE (OUT MAY 20 IN THE UK AND EUROPE AS "STORMY HIGH" SINGLE)
From Jagjaguwar:

The "Bastards of Light" EP was originally released as a tour-only 12-inch in the Fall of 2007. It is currently out of print in any physical format. However, it is now available in the digital format through Itunes:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=41824629

The two songs on the EP, "Bastards of Light" and "Thirteen Walls", were both recorded in early 2007, during the same sessions that produced "In The Future".

In the UK and Europe, these two songs are being digitally released through Itunes slightly later (05/20/08), with the song "Stormy High" from the "In The Future" full-length being added to them to form what is altogether called the "Stormy High" single.

BLACK MOUNTAIN RETURN FROM COACHELLA, EMBARK ON MUCH ANTICIPATED UK AND EUROPEAN TOUR

From Jagjaguwar:

In a desert-state-of-mind, Black Mountain were in top form at Coachella. Was that an even funkier version of Druganaut? No Bright Lights? Or was the desert sun taking us on a trip of our own.

Regardless, the real news here is: Black Mountain begin their UK and European tour tomorrow, including an appearance at the ATP vs. Pitchfork showdown in Camber Sands this upcoming weekend. Among the many other festivals they will be involved in on this leg of their world tour is an appearance on the Mojo Stage of The Great Escape Festival. We are told that Black Mountain fans in the UK and Europe are restlessly awaiting many of these shows, this being the maximal-psych outfit's first visit to the European continent since their new album "In The Future" was released in January. So get your tickets now. For a comprehensive list of tour dates, please click HERE.

BLACK MOUNTAIN PERFORM AT SXSW, PART WAYS WITH BON IVER

From Jagjaguwar:

Black Mountain's last show with Bon Iver was at the Jagjaguwar showcase at the Mohawk during SXSW, and both bands we're not psyched that their magical run together had come to an end. Black Mountain continues onward with Birds of Avalon, and then performs throughout Canada with label-mates Ladyhawk. If you didn't get to catch any of Black Mountain's SXSW performances, here are various recaps worth checking out:

(we have no idea what the English editing/correction advertisement is all about... but this is the only You Tube clip that NBC hasn't pulled down yet.)

Also, Stereogum has a very cool post about the performance, discussing famous fight announcer Michael Buffer's introduction of the band:

SOME BLACK MOUNTAIN TOUR PHOTOS, MATT'S TOUR BLOG
Traveling with an immense talent behind the camera lens (Chris Frey, also of Radio Berlin and The Book Of Lists) has its privileges. Frey captured some great images of the band, both with their guard down and with their collective game face on. Also, there are plenty of photos of their friends as well, including snapshots of Whalebones and Blood On The Wall. Check them all out here:

Also, Matt has been keeping an amazing tour blog, that everyone should check out:

"IN THE FUTURE" IS NOW AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, SOME SELECTED CRITICAL PRAISE
From Jagjaguwar:

"In The Future" is now available in the CD, 2xCD, 2xLP, and digital formats throughout the world, except for the CD version in Australia, which is being released on Pop Frenzy on 02/04/08.

The critical praise of "In The Future" is piling up, and here are some selected quotations:

"In the Future is an expansive statement of an album, full of big guitars and cold space, a variety of sounds and a hard-earned and ever-present brilliance." -- 8/10, POP MATTERS

"Confident but not copyist, in the future few records will sound this dominant." -- 8/10, NME

"…an ambitious state-of-the world address that delivers on an emotional and visceral level." -- 4 stars, MOJO

"Impossibly brilliant second album. Listen to In The Future and you'll probably care about this band for a long long time" -- 4.5/5, THE SUN

In The Future "eclipses their previous output and hits a consistent note of righteous force." -- WIRE magazine

"…heady, heavy and brilliantly executed: stoner rock for the masses." -- WORD magazine
